(London, United Kingdom | Sunday, November 9, 2014) – Agnieszka Niedzwiedz (7-0) has withdrawn from her bout with Pannie Kianzad (6-0), which was scheduled to take place this Saturday, November 15, at Cage Warriors 74.
However, the vacant CWFC women’s bantamweight world title will still be on the line next weekend at the Copper Box Arena in London, with Eeva Siiskonen (3-1) stepping in at short notice to replace the injured Niedzwiedz.
Siiskonen (pictured) a native of Finland, will clash with fellow Nordic fighter Kianzad for the right to be crowned the first ever champion of Cage Warriors Fighting Championship’s 135lbs women’s division.
The bout will headline Part One of Cage Warriors 74’s double main-card bill, which will kick off at 6pm GMT this coming Saturday in London’s Olympic Park.
Siiskonen signed with CWFC in 2013 but saw her promotional debut delayed due to injury. However, the 32-year-old is now set for a baptism of fire as she aims to inflict a first ever professional loss on her undefeated Swedish opponent.
Following a year-long lay-off due to a knee problem, Siiskonen returned to action in spectacular fashion in September, courtesy of this second-round KO victory against Inga Kaledaite.
“Only a week’s notice but I’m more than ready,” said Siiskonen. “On Saturday I’m going to be the world’s biggest underdog, but I love it. After the bell rings, Pannie Kianzad is going to know what us Finns are made of.”
Having endured a ten-week training camp for the biggest fight of her career, Kianzad has expressed relief at still having the opportunity to clinch Cage Warriors gold.
She said: “Eeva Siiskonen stepping up for this title bout shows what level the Scandinavian fighters bring to the table. My eyes are still set on making history by bringing that belt home.”
A disappointed Agnieszka Niedzwiedz, meanwhile, has vowed to recover from her rib injury and return to challenge for championship honours in 2015.
“I want to apologise to all the fans, and to Cage Warriors. I did my best to prepare well and be in shape to compete for the title, but unfortunately the doctors said there is no way I will be able to fight,” Niedzwiedz said.
“I am sorry, but I can promise that I will fight for the Cage Warriors title next year. I’ll fight Pannie Kianzad too.”
Elsewhere on the CWFC 74 card, replacement opponents are being sought for Arnold Allen and Nathaniel Wood, following the respective withdrawals of Lawrence Fitzpatrick and Cameron Else.
