Earlier this week, Cage Warriors President Graham Boylan announced all fighters on the upcoming CW80 card will receive 40% commission on January ticket sales in order to help pay for medical costs, in a move praised by UK medical organisation Safe MMA.

Izzy Carnwath, IMMAF’s communications director believes that this move demonstrates Cage Warriors’ role in helping to improve medical safety in UK MMA. She said:

“This type of generous, financial initiative will be an important driver in enabling fighters to afford increased medical costs and demonstrates that Cage Warriors takes its duty of care very seriously.

“It is hugely positive to see Cage Warriors continuing this support, among those taking the lead in further advancing medical safety.”

Cage Warriors 80 takes place on February 18th, in London, and all fighters, including headliners Matt Inman and Karl Amoussou will receive 40% commission on all online tickets sold in January. Cage Warriors’ President Graham Boylan announced this on Twitter on Wednesday. He said:

This move doesn’t come as a huge surprise to Safe MMA and Izzy Carnwath, who said:

As a founding entity of Safe MMA, Cage Warriors have been proactive in defining medical safety standards for MMA competitors in the UK.

This is not the first ticket incentive that Cage Warriors have come up with since their return in 2016. Fans who bought tickets for CW80 were to receive a refund on their tickets should Ronda Rousey have knocked out Amanda Nunes in the second round of their fight at UFC 207. Luckily for the promotion, Nunes took home the victory that night.

Athletes competing under the Cage Warriors banner are expected to go through rigorous medical tests before they can step into the cage. Safe MMA have revealed the process of receiving medical clearance, which involves the following:

“The core medical tests required of athletes to compete on Cage Warriors are blood tests for Hepatitis B, C and HIV and an annual physical exam vetted by third party, independent medical organisation Safe MMA.

“Cage Warriors has additionally recently increased its athlete preclearance standards to include brain scans and specialist eye-tests.”
