Cage Warriors lightweight champion Chris Fishgold has been forced to pull out of next month’s scheduled title defence at Cage Warriors 82 against Jani Salmi due to an injury.

The scheduled bout was to take place in Fishgold’s native Liverpool as the rising British promotion brings Cage Warriors 82 to the Echo Arena on April 1. It was to feature a double main event of Fishgold defending the lightweight belt and his Next Generation Liverpool teammate Paddy Pimblett putting his featherweight gold on the line against Nad Narimani.

Cage Warriors took to their official Twitter to make the unfortunate announcement earlier this evening with no further comment being made by either party at this time.

Fishgold (17-1-1) is 7-0 under the Cage Warriors banner and was set to defend his belt for the third time after winning the gold last July. Since a first-round submission win over Adam Boussif at Cage Warriors 77 to capture the vacant title, the 24-year-old already held wins over Jason Ponet and Nic-Heron Webb during his lightweight reign.

Finnish challenger Salmi (9-2) is on an eight-fight winning streak and has been lighting up Finland’s regional scene finishing six of his last eight opponents inside the distance. Due to Fishgold’s injury, he will now have to wait to see if he is rescheduled to make his promotional debut.
