Richard Williams emerged victorious at Cage Warriors Wales - Credit: Cage Warriors Wales

Cage Warriors‘ return to Wales has been bolstered with the addition of a Lightweight clash between Richard Williams and Joe McColgan.

The duo are considered to be two of the brightest prospects from Wales and Ireland respectively, and will collide on the main card of Cage Warriors 83 in Newport.

McColgan aims to bounce back with victory over Williams in Wales?

For “The SBG Hunter” McColgan (2-1), this fight represents an opportunity to get back to winning ways, following a narrow split decision loss to France’s Arnold Quero at Cage Warriors 81 in Dublin. Prior to that defeat, the Fight Academy Ireland fighter was coming off of a win over more experienced fighter Peter Queally at BAMMA 26. Incidentally, Queally was the third SBG fighter that McColgan had dispatched of, having previously beaten James Heelan and Levi Keogh at amateur level.

In Richard “Frango” Williams (4-0), McColgan gets an opponent fighting out of NAILS MMA in Port Talbot, Wales. A pro for just over a year, Williams has looked the part, stopping each of his opponents. Most recently, he defeated Gracjan Bak via knockout in under a minute at Cage Warriors Wales, which took place the very same night as McColgan’s fight with Quero, albeit on the other side of the Irish Sea.

With the exception of local favourite Jack Shore, Williams received by far the best reception from the crowd the last time he fought in Newport. McColgan, who is fighting outside of Ireland for the first time as a professional, can expect a hostile audience when he takes to the cage on May 6th.
