After reports suggesting Lew Long would be headlining an event in Newport, Cage Warriors have announced that welterweights Che Mills and Long will main event Cage Warriors 83 on May 6.

The pair were originally scheduled to fight at Cage Warriors 79 in Newport on October 15, 2016 but the bout was cancelled due to an injury to Long.

Since the injury and battling illness, “The Foot” has enjoyed a successful comeback with two wins in the first round, both coming via rear-naked choke submission. The 27-year-old will be looking to carry on his impressive form in his return to CW after having competed in Raged UK MMA and Made4theCage most recently.

Speaking to MMA Plus at Cage Warriors 80 Lewis was hopeful of a clash with CW champion Karl Amoussou, however, he has been denied that chance.

For Che Mills this is a must win fight. After losing four of his last five fights excluding the no contest, he is in desperate need of a win.

Despite those losses, there can be no denying the quality of opposition that Mills has faced. With his latest two defeats coming to Matt Inman and current UFC athlete Jack Marshman following Mills’s win over Leeroy Barnes, the seemingly poor form is understandable.

At 34 years of age and 28 fights to his name, questions have to be raised of how long the Englishman has left in the sport and whether this fight may be his last or not.

The fight will be held at the Newport Centre on Saturday 6 May and will be televised on BT Sport and UFC Fight Pass.
