Cage Warriors light-heavyweight champion Karl Moore will attempt to become a two-weight champion in Belgium next month after it was announced that he will fight for the vacant heavyweight title.

The fight, which will feature as the main event at Cage Warriors 89, was announced by Cage Warriors through a press release on Tuesday evening.

Cage Warriors 89 is set to take place on Saturday, November 25 at the Lotto Arena in Antwerp, Belgium and will mark the promotion’s first event in the country. This main event announcement follows last weeks news that former UFC and Invicta FC bantamweight Cindy Dandois will also be on the card to make her promotional debut in her home country.

Moore (8-1) will face Italian heavyweight veteran Mauro “The Hammer” Cerilli (10-2) in the evening’s headline bout as he attempts to become the promotion’s first dual champion since compatriot Conor McGregor completed the double on New Year’s Eve in 2012.

The Northern Irishman won the 205lb strap earlier in the year at Cage Warriors 81 when he defeated former TUF competitor Josh Clark in a hard-fought decision win at the 3Arena.

Both fighters enter the bout riding three-fight win streaks with the majority of Cerilli’s bouts taking place within his home country of Italy. The Italian’s last win came against UKMMA veteran Lukasz Parobiec at Magnum FC 2 back in July.

“Karl Moore has a huge opportunity to become our first two-weight world champion since Conor McGregor,” Cage Warriors President Graham Boylan told the promotion’s official website.

“And if he’s successful in Antwerp on November 25, I’m sure a lot of people – including the UFC – will be paying very close attention to him. But he has a tough test in front of him. Cerilli is tough and in good form. I’m looking forward to a great title fight.”
