CWFC 79 in Newport, Wales was not one to be missed with highlight reel knockouts and enthralling contests.

A solid sequel to Cage Warriors 78, the stars of that special night in Liverpool also received their next marching orders. Paddy Pimblett will fight TUF contestant Julian ‘Juicy’ Erosa and Chris Fishgold will defend his 155lb belt against Nic Webb on November 12’s CW Unplugged.

Former TUF Contestant Martin Svensson met Scott Clist in the main event of CWFC 79. Svensson appeared by far the superior grappler and looked to execute his game plan straight away scoring multiple takedowns. Clist transitioned well and found his way into top position for a minimal period of offence.

As the two came out for the second round the Swede caught Clist’s head kick attempt and swept his leg for the takedown. Clist continued to show his skills on the ground, reversing his way into top position.

He should have taken this opportunity to stand the fight up but instead started throwing strikes. A moment of class and quick thinking from Svensson saw him make Clist pay for his lackadaisical attempts, as he sunk a triangle choke to finish the fight.

In his post-fight interview, Svensson set his eyes on the Lightweight Championship: “I want the belt no matter who has it, I have the best jiu jistu in Cage Warriors that’s a fact”

In the co-main event, Josh Reed defeat Martin Sheridan via split decision. Reed dominated on the ground in the first, smothering Sheridan who was still active off of his back.

Sheridan increased the pressure and cut off the cage well, catching Reed.

“The Silencer” looked to be finding his rhythm late on until the Welshman secured an important takedown which saw out the last minute for the win.

Dean Trueman proved the upset of the night making quick work of highly touted Arnold Quero, Trueman took the fight on seven days notice, putting Quero away with two heavy right hands within 12 seconds.

Meanwhile, Jack Shore recorded an impressive TKO victory over Eddi Pobivanez. In the second round, Shore took Eddi’s back, got both hooks in and flattened out the German. the 2015 IMMAF European gold medallist then started to rain down on the 23 year old leaving the referee no choice but to intervene.

To open the CWFC 79 main card on BT Sport, Welterweight Adam Proctor squared up against Aaron Khalid. Khalid with a professional record of 5-0 took early control of the fight locking in a deep body triangle and attempting numerous submissions.

The Welshman from MAT Academy was patient and waited for his opening before catching the back of an off-balance Procter, to sink in a rear-naked-choke and secure a surprising submission.
