DAYTONA BEACH, Fla (July 4, 2014) – World Series of Fighting Lightweight champion Justin Gaethje stepped off the scales weighing in at 154.8 pounds, looking rested and relaxed a day before he’s set to face fellow undefeated fighter Nick Newell in the main event of World Series of Fighting 11: “Gaethje vs. Newell” Saturday at Ocean Center.

“I’m feeling great,” Gaethje said. “I got in on Wednesday and I’ve had crab legs, steak, pasta. I played golf yesterday. All the hard work has been done in the gym. I didn’t want to get here and have to stress about making weight.”

Newell said he is friendly with Gaethje and hasn’t been bothered by all his pre-fight knockout talk. “Of course he’s going to say he’s going to knock me out,” Newell said. “He’d be a weirdo to say, ‘I think I’m going to get the decision.’ The fight is going to end before a decision, it’s just going to end with me as the winner.”

The fight is headlined by the lightweight championship bout with the exciting Gaethje (11-0) putting his belt on the line against the extremely tough and talented Newell (11-0). Also on the card, a highly anticipated welterweight matchup pitting Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Jon Fitch (25-6-1, 1 NC) against MMA veteran Dennis Hallman (53-14-2. Additionally, newly signed lightweight Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard (31-13-2) debuts against Gesias “JZ” Cavalcante (18-7-1) and Cody “Bam Bam” Bollinger (15-2, 1 NC) faces a dangerous 14-year veteran in Pablo Alfonso (9-5) in an intriguing bantamweight contest.
