It was reported in August that Cage Warriors welterweight champion Cathal Pendred (13-2) had made the decision to attend The Ultimate Fighter Season 19 try-outs, having grown tired of waiting for a straight call up to the UFC.
Undefeated in 8-fights, many speculated that the Irishman may feature on the card of UFC Fight Night: Shogun vs Sonnen, in Boston on August 17 however, nothing materialized. Most recently, ‘The Punisher’ defeated former UFC welterweight Che Mills by TKO at Cage Warriors 55 in June, and with a lack of significant opponents to further enhance his reputation, Pendred hoped for an encounter with top British welterweight Paul Daly however, Daley appeared less interested for similar reasons and went on to sign an exclusive 3-fight deal with BAMMA.
With the Irishman having attended the TUF try-outs based in Indianapolis on Tuesday, August 24, a source recently alleged to MMA Plus that Pendred was successful at the open casting, and that he will compete in a traditional TUF qualifying bout in order to join fellow cast members in the house.
