GLORY 22

GLORY 22 has its headline bout.

Today the premier kickboxing promotion announced that Rico Verhoeven (45-10, 11 KOs) will defend his GLORY Heavyweight World Championship against Romania’s Benjamin Adegbuyi (18-2, 13 KOs).

“The Prince of Kickboxing” had previously been announced for GLORY 22; the event which takes place at Stade Pierre Mauroy in Lille, France on Friday, June 5; despite no opponent named.

Adegbuyi was originally scheduled to face Anderson “Braddock” Silva on the SuperFight Series portion of GLORY 21: San Diego which goes down this Friday, May 8. Rumours circulated that “Mister Gentleman” had VISA issues thus the reason for being pulled from San Diego however GLORY have stated an injury during “the final preparations of fight camp forced him off the card.”

Verhoeven is riding a seven-fight win streak in GLORY, with his most recent victory against Errol Zimmerman at GLORY 19 in February. Although the win holds a question mark for Verhoeven, due to Zimmerman sustaining a knee injury in the second round; rendering him unable to compete.

Adegbuyi is arguably the rightful number one contender, and is currently on a three-fight GLORY streak himself. The 30 year-old holds win over Dmytro Bezus, Daniel Sam, and Hesdy Gerges under the GLORY banner.

Additional bouts for GLORY 22, although not announced officially were leaked and the event will include a GLORY one-night, four-man Lightweight Contender Tournament, which features the return of former champion Davit Kiria.
