Jamie Bates marked his Glory debut with an impressive win in the headline bout of the GLORY 40 SuperFight Series which took place in Copenhagen, Denmark earlier this evening.
The Englishman would use his clear height and reach advantage against No. 6 ranked American Richard Abraham to earn the nod on the judge’s scorecards 28-29, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27, 30-27.
From the opening bell, Abraham would try to make good on his pre-fight promise to march forward in search of the finish against the man who earned a 2-fight deal with the promotion after defeating Kev Ward at last month’s Road to Glory event.
But Bates would keep his opponent at range by treating fans in attendance to an impressive array of precision striking while never really being in trouble to cruise to an impressive win on his maiden outing for Glory.
Post-fight, the Englishman did not waste his moment in the spotlight when he called for a fight at GLORY New York and even offered any willing American welterweight the chance to restore national pride against him in Madison Square Garden.
El-Mir, Janucey and Xie all impress during Glory 40 SuperFight Series
In the co-headline bout, Denmark’s Mohammed El-Mir would honor the recent passing of his father when he defeated Norway’s Simon Santana via unanimous decision in front of his fellow countrymen at The Forum.
Also on the card former lightweight contender, Josh Janucey looked to have rediscovered the blistering form that saw him become of the promotions hottest fighters when he scored a crushing knee to the chin of Antonio Gomez, opening up a huge gash and forcing the doctor in attendance to stop the bout with just over a minute gone of Round 2.
In the opening bout of the night 18-year old Yuhang Xie of China marked his Glory debut with an impressive unanimous decision win over USA’s Chris Mauceri. After a slow start, Xie would drop his opponent and go on to outstrike his older opponent to earn the win.
