In an exclusive interview, MMA Plus spoke to Martin Stapleton just a few days before the SBG Manchester fighter makes his Cage Warriors debut against Anthony Dizy at CW80 which takes place at the world famous O2 in London this weekend.
During the interview, “50 Cal” spoke about whether or not his dream of becoming a 3 weight world champion while competing for BAMMA is still a realistic one while competing under the CWFC banner.
The 33-year old also spoke about the current difficulties he and fellow British fighters face making it to the UFC since the promotion was sold to WME-IMG last year.

After the recent sale of the Ultimate Fighting Championship to entertainment superpower WME-IMG, Stapleton (18-4) now feels that it is now harder to make it to the big show but it is a task he believes himself and the rest of the top fighters in Manchester are more than up to.
“It seems to be slowing down a little bit on the people they are signing up but before Christmas, we were in contact with a few people over there. I think there is a few of us, me, Saul [Rogers] and Matt [Inman] obviously, –who have a chance of getting there but– there is really no one else they can really look at in Europe.
There are a few other guys as well, especially around Manchester, Brendan Loughnane obviously, but yeah it is getting tougher to get in but they’ve got to open the doors at some point because they need new stars, new people to bring in crowds and we do that up here, we’ve got a big following and a lot of people turn up to our fights .”
