Many mixed martial arts fans will this evening be left disappointment with the news that Anderson Silva is unlikely to make his UFC return by the end of 2014.
It had previously been reported by amongst others UFC president Dana White that Silva could be back in action in 2014, but report coming out of Brazil suggests that this will not be the case.
Silva who is considered by many to be the greater MMA fighter of all time had the following to say when he speaking to Brazilian outlet Combate.
“These rumors that I’ll fight at UFC 181 or any other event around that date aren’t true”.
Despite this disappointing new the Spider was more upbeat when speaking about making his octagon return in 2015.
“This year (2014) is over for me. There’s a chance I’ll fight in the first half of 2015.”
Since suffering an horrific leg break in his last outing at UFC 168, Silva had been making steady progress resuming training within a few weeks of undergoing surgery, which in turn lead to some to speculate that we could see Silva’s return by the end of the year.
MMA Plus will bring you more on this story as we get it.
