The UFC have confirmed that UK lightweight Paul ‘Relentless’ Taylor is retiring from MMA competition due to injury.
Taylor, who has an MMA record of 11-6-1, was due to take on Anthony Njokuani at UFC Manchester 2013 in October, but injury forced him to withdraw from the bout. Taylor has not fought since February 2011, where he defeated Gabe Ruediger with a head-kick KO at UFC 126.
Winning Fight of the Night bonuses on three occasions against Marcus Davis, Paul Kelly and Chris Lytle, Taylor was known for his exciting striking style and was a very popular fighter among UFC fans. As one of the UK’s most experienced UFC veterans, Taylor made his MMA debut in 2002, and made his first UFC appearance in Manchester, 2007 with a TKO victory over Edilberto de Oliveira.
A leading figure at Liverpool’s Team Kaobon, the 33-year-old competed at170lbs for the majority of his career, before dropping to the lightweight division in 2010.
