Despite Dana White’s statements to the contrary on Saturday night, Carlos Condit is set to face off against Tyron Woodley at UFC 171.

At the post UFC on Fox 9 media scrum, the UFC president said T-Wood had been texting him non-stop in search of a big fight and after Nick Diaz turned down a rematch with Condit, an opponent was needed for ‘The Natural Born Killer’. However, unranked Woodley would not get that opportunity.

Flash forward less than 72 hours, and it appears there has been a change of plans. According to the UFC’s UK Twitter account, Condit and Woodley will meet at UFC 171 after all

Despite Woodley’s place outside the 170 pound top 10, he is a tough opponent, a legitimate threat and an exciting match for anyone at welterweight. He is coming off a blistering KO of Josh Koscheck last month. Condit, the former UFC interim and WEC welterweight champion, last fought in August where he recorded a fantastic fourth-round submission win in a rematch with Martin Kampmann.

UFC 171 is set to take place on March 15 and will feature a fight between Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler to determine the new welterweight champion in the wake of George St-Pierre’s departure from the sport.
