Having outclassed Max Holloway at UFC Fight Night in Boston this past Saturday, breakout Irish star Conor McGregor (14-2) suffered a sprained knee following the unanimous decision victory.
Having taken part in the post-fight press conference with a bandage around the joint, the diagnosis was revealed on Tuesday’s episode of UFC Tonight. An MRI scan is pending, however it’s expected that McGregor will avoid surgery, for what is a minor injury to his LCL ligament.
McGregor recalled feeling the injury halfway through the bout.
“I injured my knee halfway through the second. I just can’t get it out of my head, but looking back I should have just pulled my knee from my leg and hit him with it,”
“I heard a big pop and I let out a scream mid-round, but I passed into side control with it. When we stood back up I was unsteady on it.”
The decision marks McGregors first encounter with the final scorecards, and ‘The Notorious’ one explained, that’s not his style.
“It feels like a loss to me to be honest. I wanted the finish and I felt the finish was there for me,”
“I don’t come here for decisions. We are rewarded for finishes, and that’s what I’m looking for. I am a finisher,” he said.
“Right now it feels like I’m dealing with a loss.”
