It’s been over four years since Caol Uno last fought in the UFC Octagon. A first round execution courtesy of Gleison Tibau at UFC Fight Night in 2010 marked a dispiriting end to Uno’s second stint in the promotion, going three fights without a win.
Following Tibau’s TKO victory, Uno (32-16-5) moved down to featherweight but continued to diminish and fade outside of the UFC with a 1-3 record fighting back in Japan for promotions such as Dynamite!!, DREAM, and Shooto, however a late career resurgence was sparked last year at “Shooto: 2nd Round 2013” where the former UFC lightweight title challenger snatched a somewhat gifted first round submission from the far less experienced Kyu Hwa Kim. Nevertheless, the man also known as ‘Uno Shoten’ has evidently re-awoken and harnessed his wealth of experience to establish a 6-fight win streak including four submissions and scalps of respectable opposition such as Team Alpha Male’s Anthony Avila who boasted a 10-fight win streak of his own only for it to be snapped by the rejuvenated veteran, Daniel Romero, again of the renown Team Alpha Male who’s run of three straight first round stoppages was halted, and most recently Rein MMA’s Raja Shippen who under the banner of Vale Tudo Japan on Oct. 4 was choked out by Uno via rear-naked-choke.
With the 39-year-old’s seemingly dormant potential having once again been unleashed, could it be that Japan’s Saitama Super Arena plays host to a dramatic UFC return in 2015 with this energized pioneer of the sport once again fighting on the sport’s grandest stage?
