In 2012, featherweight champion Jose Aldo defended his title by impressively knocking out Chad Mendes with a devastating knee, with just seconds remaining in the opening frame. After the Brazilian dynamo delighted his home crowd, he then made the decision to burst out of the cage door, and sprint into the crowd of Brazilians.

Security frantically tried to recover Aldo and there was genuine panic among officials, but he emerged from the crowd in the HSBC Arena in Rio de Janeiro when he was hoisted in the air by his fans. It was the first time Aldo had competed in his home country since 2007, and the celebration showed scenes of national support that have never before been seen in the UFC.
