It’s been about three months since Mark Hunt’s epic war with Antonio Silva, and there’s still no date for his return. At least he finds the time to continue the entertainment while he’s on the sidelines nursing a broken hand.

You see, Brendan Schaub thought it would be a good idea to call out the ‘Super Samoan’. Ignoring the likelihood that Schaub would be strongly favoured to have his block knocked off, it’s not the worst idea. The TUF 10 finalist is ranked as the #14 heavyweight, a few places below Hunt at #8, so it would be to his advantage to get that match.

That’s not been lost on Hunt, who clearly sees the American as a step down in competition. That still might not stop him from taking part in that block knocking when he’s finally ready to return to the Octagon, Ariel Helwani reported on UFC Tonight:

“I spoke to Brendan Schaub’s manager, Lex McMahon, and he told me they want to fight Mark Hunt next. He’s expected to come back in summer. I asked Mark Hunt about it, and he said fighting Brendan would be like going backwards, but if he wants go to sleep first, than sure, why not.”

Hunt’s current status could warrant a bigger fight, but I’d watch that. Wouldn’t you? When the former K1 World Grand Prix Champion steps into the Octagon with a fellow striker, we can more often than not count on a highlight bout for one reason or another.
