It has emerged today that former UFC lightweight contender Melvin Guillard (31-13-2 -2) has signed with fast raising mixed martial arts promotion World Series of Fighting.

The news was first broken by WSOF president Ray Sefo via ESPN.com and has seen the man known as the “Young Assassin” sign a multi-fight deal and sees him join an ever growing roster of lightweight fighters which includes Nick Newell and current WSOF lightweight champion Justin Gaethje.

WSOF president Sefo had the following to say about Guillard signing to the promotion.

“Melvin is an amazing fighter with an energetic style that has earned him a massive, loyal fan base,” said Sefo. “He’s a guy that comes to fight every time he enters the cage and I’m excited to see how he fares in our lightweight division”

Rumors had been circulating since Guillard was released from the UFC following unanimous decision loss to Michael Johnson at UFC Fight Night 38 and ended a 23-fight run in the worlds No.1 mixed martial arts promotion.

The date of Guillard’s World Series of Fighting debut has yet to be confirmed, but MMA Plus will bring you news on this as we get it.
