Earlier today via Instagram ‘The New York Badass’ Phil Baroni confirmed he has signed with Bellator Fighting Championships and will make his debut on the promotions May 2nd card in Atlantic City, NJ.
Baroni hasn’t fought since breaking his ankle at ONE FC 9 last may but was building momentum in recent interviews asking to fight newly signed undefeated welterweight Ben Askren. That match is now not going to happen with Baroni coming back to fight in the states.
With a record of 15-17 and losing 7 from his last 9 it’s clear Bellator have gone for name value here rather than a fighter who is amongst the best in the world. Always a fan favourite amongst MMA fans Baroni has previously fought for Pride, Strikeforce and the UFC.
