UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva recently expressed his interest in facing off against boxing legend Roy Jones Jr. In return, Jones expressed an interest of his own, however as far as the UFC goes, the suggestion didn’t carry much weight, until now.
UFC president Dana White has revealed he’s set to meet with his friend, Roy Jones, when the body shot specialist visits Las Vegas.
White explained: “It’s not that I’m necessarily interested in this, Anderson Silva’s the greatest fighter of all time, you know, he’s a guy who’s never lost in the UFC, I respect him — he wants to fight Roy Jones,”
“So Roy and I are friends. I called Roy and I said, ‘Listen, you know about this?’ He says, ‘I know about it.’ I say, ‘You interested?’ He says, ‘I’m going to come out to Vegas this weekend.’
“So Roy and I have been talking and we’ll see what happens. I don’t know [if the fight will happen]. I don’t know. He’s coming out and we’re going to talk.”
Opinions will surely be divided as MMA meets boxing once again. With that being said, a platform for the contest is up in the air at this time, with the potential bout being far from ‘on’.
At this point in time, future plans should be at the back of Silva’s mind, with ‘The Spider’ set to defend his 185lb crown against Chris Weidman, this weekend at UFC 162.
