In a recent interview with Submission Radio former UFC heavyweight & light-heavyweight champion Randy Couture discussed the possibility of competing in a submission grappling match against former PRIDE FC champion Fedor Emelianenko under the banner of Metamoris.
Prior to the retirement of both fighters, Couture vs Emelianenko was considered a dream fixture in MMA with the UFC Hall of Famer having served as the promotion’s top heavyweight while Fedor was widely considered to be the no.1 heavyweight in the world, if not of all time. However, a deal to bring Fedor to the UFC was never completed.
Couture explained: “That would be interesting and certainly given the time to prepare and get back up into good solid grappling and wrestling shape, that would be a lot of fun and I think, you know….I’m not sure how active Fedor is at this stage, you know him being retired as well, but I’m certainly not opposed to an idea like that.”
Metamoris continues its impressive development as a PPV submission grappling promotion founded by Ralek Gracie, and features some of the biggest names from the worlds of MMA and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, etc. Most recently, Metamoris 4 took place in Los Angeles on Aug. 9 with a co-headline attraction where Andre Galvao submitted Chael Sonnen in the main event, and Josh Barnett ended the 16-year undefeated streak of Dean Lister.
