Former UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Rashad Evans (21-3-1) has suffered a knee injury during preperation for his UFC 170 bout on Feb.22 in Las Vegas against former Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix winner Daniel Cormier (13-0).
Yahoo Sports reported that UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertita explained Evans will require four weeks of rehab, and that the promotion may reschedule the fight for UFC 172 in Baltimore, April.26 where Cormier would be making his anticipated MMA debut at 205lbs following a so far undefeated heavyweight career.
However, the cancellation of a big fight just wouldn’t be the same without Chael Sonnen (28-14-1) offering his services to step in for the injured party. Despite a scheduled grudge match with Wanderlei Silva on May.24 fast approaching, ‘The American Gangster’ and leader of Team Darkside sent a message to ‘DC’ via Twitter.
