UFC president Dana White has once again made it clear who he thinks won the fight between Ross Pearson (15-7) and hometown hero Diego Sanchez (25-7) by rewarding Person with his UFC win bonus.
Sunderland native Pearson was on the wrong end of a controversial split decision in the co-main event of UFC Fight Night 42 in Albuquerque, New Mexico will be given $30,000 he would have been entitled if the decision had gone his way.
UFC President Dana White made the announcement during the early hours of this morning via UFC.com
“Diego lost that fight, the judge who judged that fight should never be judging fights again. He never should be judging fights of this caliber. He needs to go back down into the amateurs and really learn how to judge a fight”.
“First of all, you gave every round to Diego, who got dropped in the second round. It was a knockdown. How does Diego win that round? It’s not possible. I don’t know how you can vote against him, but it goes to show that you’re never safe. That’s as bad as it gets.”
While the promotion are unable to overturn the New Mexico Athletic Commission’s scoring, UFC president Dana White spoke with ESPN to explain that Pearson will receive his win money, and furthermore, Pearson will progress in their eyes as if he had been awarded the victory.
“Insanity, man. Pearson got robbed. Pearson won that fight clearly. He easily won that fight. We have to treat Pearson like he won and give him that next level fight.”
