October 7th, 2014 – The leaders in Mixed Martial Arts sports entertainment, BAMMA, is proud to announce what will be the ‘Battle of the Spartans’, Oli ‘The Spartan’ Thompson vs Brett ‘The Spartan’ McDermott in a Light Heavyweight collision for BAMMA 17 at the Victoria Warehouse, Manchester on 6th December.
Oli Thompson originally made his name as a strongman, peaking in 2006 when he won the TWI Britain’s Strongest Man contest and reached the finals of the IFSA World Championships, in which he came 8th. Training out of 1st Generation in Sussex with a professional record of 12-7.
After a strong finish to 2013, Thompson suffered back to back losses in 2014 suffering a shock 18-second loss to Gzim Selmani at BAMMA 15 followed by a contraversal unanimous decision loss to Mariusz Pudzianowski at KSW 27. It is these results which many believe has prompted Thompson to be down a weight class to make his first appearence at Light Heavyweight.

Fighting our of Flex MMA Manchester, Brett ‘The Spartan’ McDermott presents a record of 2-1-0, with all wins via TKO in the first round. This is McDermotts first appearance at BAMMA since BAMMA 12 where he conceded defeat to Thomas Denham via 2nd Rd Sub.
