Anthony Pettis (16-2) has withdrawn from facing UFC Featherweight Champion Jose Aldo at UFC 163, due to a torn meniscus (knee injury). The Brazilian is now set to face replacement challenger, ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung (13-3).
UFC president Dana White revealed, “Pettis hurt his knee, Korean Zombie will now face Jose Aldo for the title on the Aug card in Rio Brazil.”
An optimistic Pettis explained, “Injuries are part of the sport, Small tear in my meniscus. I was so ready for this fight, this won’t stop me! Be back soon.”
Jung simply tweeted: “I’m ready!”
UFC 163 hits Rio’s HSBC Arena on Aug 3. Undefeated in the UFC and no.4 ranked featherweight contender, Chan Sung Jung steps in with a 3-fight win streak, having finished all three of his opponents in the Octagon. In contrast, Aldo is undefeated since 2006, on a 15-fight win streak, making the team Nova Uniao front runner one of the sport’s reigning pound for pound greats.
