The Ultimate Fighting Championship has this morning announced that a date for the eagerly anticipated rematch between light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones (20-1) and no.1 contender Alexander “The Mauler” Gustafsson (16-2) has been set.

After months of speculation regarding the date and location of the rematch mixed martial arts fans have finally got their wish with today’s confirmation of the fight.

The pairs of exciting light heavyweights have been keeping busy since their first classic meeting at UFC 165 with champion Jones last seen in action at UFC 172 this past April where he treated fans to a dominant performance on the way to securing a unanimous decision victory against Brazilian Glover Teixeira.

After dropping a close decision to the champion, Gustafsson got back to winning ways in March at UFC Fight Night 37 where he defeated the previously undefeated Londoner Jimi “Posterboy” Manuwa via 2nd round TKO.

Earlier this week the rematch between the two light heavyweights appeared to be in Jeopardy after the champion had spoken about his desire to face the undefeated former Strikeforce grand prix champion Daniel Cormier, with the former Olympic wrestler hinting that he was willing to delay surgery on a knee injury for a shot at UFC gold. But after months of lobbying the 27-year old Swede wish has finally been granted with the rematch set to take place on September 27th in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
