Featured in a report from Local10.com, ex UFC light heavyweight Thiago Silva has been granted release from prison on bail a month after being arrestred for allegedly threatening his wife at gunpoint outside Pablo Popovitch’s BJJ gym in Florida.

As a Brazilian national, prosecutors argued that Silva was a flight risk and pushed for the $25,000 bail to be denied, along with the testimony of Silva’s wife who claimed Silva would kill her if released.

Having surrendered his passport, the Brazilian is due back in court next week, facing charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and resisting arrest without violence. Prosecutors intially pushed for an attempted murder charge, but without success. With friends and fighters including the likes of Rashad Evans showing up in support of his former opponent and training partner, Silva explained he has no family to run to in Brazil, having left as a child due to his abusive Father.

Silva is required to wear an electronic tag, as well as complete an anger management class alongisde random drug and alcohol tests. Furthermore, Silva must avoid Broward County and stay clear of Thaysa Silva and Pablo Popovitch – the BJJ instrcutor said to have been having an affair Silva’s wife.
