Swedish middleweight Tor “The Hammer” Troeng (16-7-1 ) has this evening announced his retirement from mixed martial arts.

The fighter who appeared in season 17 of The Ultimate Fighter retires from the sport having enjoyed a career spanning thirteen years according to Swedish website MMANytt.se.

“Since I came into the UFC, it has been difficult to find where the real joy and it has affected my performance in fights. It’s really hard to explain why it has become so hard as in training I always worked extremely hard. But nowhere is the joy of fighting just is not as strong it once was anymore and MMA is a sport where you have to be 100% focused all the time to compete at this level.”

After being a contestant on the 17th season of TUF, Troeng made the perfect start to his UFC career defeating fellow TUF 17 contestant Adam Cella via 1st round rear naked choke in front of hometown fans at UFC on Fuel TV 9 in Stockholm, Sweden but would then go on to suffer 3 unanimous decision defeats in a row resulting in him announcing his retirement.
