It has been reported on Friday by Swedish MMA website MMAnytt.se that UFC lightweight Reza “Mad Dog” Madadi (13-2) has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for his involvement in the aggravated burglary of a luxury handbag store in Stockholm, Sweden on 24th May 2013.
Video footage (see above) of burglary shows three masked intruders breaking into store by smashing the glass of the front door using a sledgehammer just after 5am. The intruders would make off with many expensive handbags and proceed to make their escape in a black Audi at 5:05 a.m.
Shortly after the raid Swedish police would locate the Audi and Madadi at a garage in Akersberga, and would find incriminating evidence in the form of broken glass from the scene of the burglary on Madadi.
The fighter who is currently 2-1 in the UFC was last in action just over a month before the burglary was committed, defeating Michael Johnson in a ‘Submission of the Night’ performance via d’arce choke at UFC on Fuel TV 9, in Stockholm, Sweden. Madadi would pick-up $60,000 for winning sub of the night, making his involvement in this raid all the stranger.
Madadi has until September 6, 2013 to appeal the verdict.
