Mixed martial arts legend Georges St-Pierre is set to miss out on a middleweight showdown with current UFC champion Michael BispingDana White tells FOX Sports. Much to the dismay of number one contender Yoel Romero and Luke Rockhold, GSP was set to challenge for the middleweight title before either of the aforementioned fighters.

Romero was bitter in reaction to the news that he wouldn’t be next to challenge for the title and insisted the only other fight he would take is a showdown with Anderson Silva for the interim title.

However, with this news it seems that Romero will now be next in line to face the current champion after a lengthy time out of the Octagon.

On the Romero situation, White quoted: “We’re not waiting for GSP. Romero doesn’t need to voice his opinion on why he needs a title shot. He definitely deserves a title shot. He’s next in line – he is the number one ranked guy in the world.”

The proposed bout between “Rush” and the Englishman was planned to take place in July despite having no official date or venue. However, in a recent social media post from the Canadian, he clearly states he is ready to fight any time after October.

In recent times, the UFC has been under fire from fans but with White actively engaging with the fans and his middleweight contenders and making such a bold move, he has appealed to the masses.

Whilst Romero is next in line, a future GSP bout for the title is seemingly inevitable. A fight for the title after four years out and a lucrative one, at that.

It is rumoured that Bisping vs Romero will take place at UFC 213 on July 8.
