After recent speculation, it has been confirmed that Alexander Gustafsson will face Glover Teixeira at an event in Stockholm, Sweden on May 28.

MMAfighting.com first reported the rumor which has today been confirmed by the UFC. Gustafsson will headline the event which sees the UFC return to his homeland. The pair of light heavyweights were originally scheduled to meet at UFC Fight Night: Berlin in June 2015, however an injury to the Swede prevented this.

“The Mauler” and Glover both enjoyed recent success with Alexander’s 2016 return seeing him take a unanimous decision victory over Jan Blachowicz whilst the Brazilian got off to winning ways in 2017 with a comfortable, yet rare decision win over Jared Cannonier.

With both fighters ranked No.3 (Gustafsson) and No.4 (Glover) respectively, the winner of the bout will likely be next in line to face the victor of the title fight between Daniel Cormier and Anthony Johnson who go head-to-head on April 8 at UFC 210.

With the top four contenders all facing each other, Gustafsson making his comeback and Jimi Manuwa in the hunt for a title shot, the light-heavyweight division is receiving the breath of fresh air it had been calling out for. Add these factors to the highly anticipated return of Jon Jones, the 205lb division is quickly becoming one of the most exciting divisions in the UFC.
