James Vick talks delight at submission win over Abel Trujillo

Vick (10-1) spoke to the press in attendance about the delight he felt after rebounding from the 1st round KO he suffered at the hands of Beneil Dariush at UFC 199 last June.

“It’s great, it’s great, I’m so happy I’m like a little kid right now. I love fighting in my home state I wish I could fight in Texas more often. The outcome is what I envisioned, I’m a big believer in the laws of attraction and I studied the stuff religiously, I visualized it and I picture it to the exact finish the d’are choke, I knew it was going to happen for me.”

The encounter which acted as the opening bout of the main card saw “The Texecutioner” control the encounter on the feet, employing some impressive striking which included a flying knee while successfully avoiding the power of his opponent.

The 29-year old would also control the fight on the ground by attempting a number submission and the end would come with just 49 seconds of the final frame gone as he would lock in a d’arce choke to force Trujillo (15-7-1) to tap.

Protect your neck when you go for takedown’s with me

After successfully defeating the former 3-time All-American wrestler the Team Lloyd Irvin trained fighter explained that he was confident of the outcome of the fight and hoped his performance would finally put an end to the myth that he is unable to complete with the best if the fight hits the deck.

“I knew it [the choke] was going to present itself because I knew he was going to try and wrestle me. I don’t know why these guys think I can’t wrestle, I’ve been taken down a few times in the UFC but no one has been able to hold me down. The only time I’ve been held down was for a few minutes and the dude did absolutely nothing on top, but no one has been able to hold me down and keep me down and I’m always a threat with my submission game, my neck attacks and I knew that would be the one I caught him in.

I’ve never wrestler so he should be able to take me down, he’s a 3 time All-American so why shouldn’t he take me down but I work hard and I’ve caught up [with his wrestling] and I’ve progressed so I’m not just someone you can just take down so you’ve got to protect your neck when you go for takedowns with me.”
