With the US based promotion having recently branched out into Canada with the acquisition of Aggression Fighting Championship, the World Series of Fighting continues to expand and solidify it’s presence with a new territory in Japan.
Further details are yet to be announced however, Japan events are expected to kick off in early 2014. Additionally, the WSOF have formed a partnership with iconic Tokyo based fight promotion Pancrase. The deal will see each promotion sharing talent and of course, Japanese UFC veteran Yushin Okami will likely be a prominent figure having recently signed with the WSOF.
“Japan has long been a home of top-level martial arts competitions of all types, and I personally have enjoyed some of the best moments of my fighting career there,” WSOF President Ray Sefo stated. “I’m excited to announce this new division with the launch of World Series of Fighting Japan.
“I look forward to working with Pancrase CEO Masakazu Sakai and his team, and together we will produce amazing events for the Japanese fight fans, as well as big opportunities for both Asia-based fighters and MMA fighters around the globe.”
WSOF Canada kicks things off on Dec. 7 in Vancouver, British Columbia. WSOF 7: Johnson vs Kyle will showcase the likes of Anthony Johnson vs. Mike Kyle, Rick Glenn vs. Georgi Karakhanyan for the inaugural WSOF featherweight title, Elvis Mutapcic vs. Jesse Taylor in the middleweight tournament semifinal and Nick Newell making his highly anticipated WSOF debut against Sabah Fadai.
