Kevin Ferguson Jr aka Baby Slice

Bellator MMA President Scott Coker has delivered on his promise to bring Kevin “Baby Slice” Ferguson Jr. to London, in a fitting tribute to his late father Kimbo Slice.

The news broke on Friday that Ferguson Jr. will return to the Bellator cage on May 19 for his second professional fight. “Baby Slice” will meet newcomer D.J Griffin on the main card of the Bellator 179 show at Wembley Arena.

Even though the event is in two weeks time, rumblings of his appearance on the London show date back to the promotion’s initial press conference in February, where an emotional Coker vowed to bring Ferguson Jr. to London in order to honor his late father’s memory.

Kimbo Slice had initially signed to compete on (and headline) Bellator 158 last July, before his untimely passing one month prior

At the Bellator 179 unveiling, Scott Coker told MMA Plus: “We were really good friends, man, I really miss the guy, he’s like our family but I’m really proud that his son chose to come with us and I’ll tell you now [Baby Slice] he’s going to come fight here on the card.”

Meanwhile, Ferguson Jr. will be looking to bounce back from a difficult start to his pro career and continue his father’s legacy against the debuting Griffin, who makes his pro MMA debut.

“I am so excited to get back to work and show the world how hard I’ve been grinding,” said Ferguson Jr. “On a personal level, this fight means a lot to me, not only because I’ll be making my Bellator main card debut, but because I get to show the people in London how a Slice gets down – just like Pop’s told me, keep your guard up, and stand your ground – I’m going to Slice this Griffin guy up real bad.”

“Baby Slice” will be hoping to get his first win, after a difficult start under the Bellator banner, being submitted by Aaron Hamilton last November at Bellator 165.
