It has emerged this evening that former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva (33-6) has signed an extension to his current deal.

This news will come as a surprise to many as the Brazilian who turns 40 next April was 2-fights into a 10-fight deal which he signed after an impressive first round demolition of Stephan Bonnar at UFC 153.

But after a meeting with UFC president Dana White last week, p4p great Silva was able to come to terms on a new and improved 15-fight deal with the world’s number 1 mixed martial arts promotion.

When speaking to Brazilian news outlet Combate, Silva said “I had seven fights on my contract (after the Diaz fight). I met Lorenzo and Dana on Thursday and that contract was cancelled. We signed for another 15 fights. To make Dana crazy, I signed for 15 more fights. And to make my family crazy, too.”

Silva’s first of his new 15-fight contract will be against former Strikeforce welterweight champion Nick Diaz (26-9) in a middleweight contest at UFC 183 which takes place in Las Vegas on 31 January 2015.

This fight will mark Anderson SIlva’s first fight back since he suffered an horrific leg injury during his fight with current middleweight champion Chris Weidman at UFC 168 and will see the Brazilian look to halt a 2-fight losing streak which has seen him suffer back-2-back losses inside the octagon.
