Gabriel Gonzaga says he is not taking his win over Mirko Cro Cop for granted as he heads towards their UFC Fight Night: Krakow rematch on Saturday, April 11.

The Brazilian, a 2006 jiu-jitsu world champion, stunned the world in 2007 when he knocked out Cro Cop with a head kick.

Gonzaga said: “Eight years ago I was one fighter but today I’m a different fighter. I’ve had more experience training in boxing, wrestling, muay Thai and I’ve added to my Brazilian jiu-jitsu game. I’ve made a lot of changes since our last fight. I’m a completely different fighter.

He added: “In terms of training whether it’s a stand up fight or a ground game, I’m ready to go wherever the fight goes.”

Indeed, many were surprised when Cro Cop returned to the UFC. The Croatian, beloved for his wars in Pride, has not fought in the UFC since his defeat to Roy Nelson in 2011.

Was “Napao” taken aback when his former victim came back to the promotion? “I was surprised because I didn’t expect it but I remember how much of a high-level fighter he is. I’ve watched his fights in Glory and his high kicks are still dangerous, so that’s something I’ll need to avoid.”

Expect these two heavyweights to provide fireworks once more on Saturday. You can see Gonzaga’s full interview, including his philosophy on Brazilian jiu-jitsu below.
