Tyron Woodley retained his welterweight title after defeating Stephen Thompson via majority decision, 48-47, 47-47, 48-47 in the main event of UFC 209 which took place at the T-Mobile Arena.
In a cagey encounter, it seemed a takedown in round 3 and a flurry in the dying moments of the final round that dropped the challenger which made the difference for Woodley (17-3-1) in a closely fought contest.
After the pair’s first fight ended in a majority draw at UFC 205 last November “The Chosen One” for the time being at least has now successfully closed the book on this chapter of his career against “Wonderboy” who drops to 13-2-1 in his mixed martial arts career.
In the co-main event, Sweden’s David Teymur earned a unanimous decision earning 30-27 across the judges scorecards, 30-27, 30-27 against JacksonWink trained Lando Vannata in an epic back and forth battle that lived up to the pre-fight hype.
