Tayfun Ozcan has been the 72.5kg Enfusion world champion since 2015 and was also the won last year’s 70kg Enfusion Max tournament. However, one title that eluded him last year was the Kunlun World Max title which, was eventually won by Superbon Banchamek who defeated Jomthong Chuwattanaat, in the grand finale at Kunlun Fight 56 on new year’s day in Sanya, China.
“The Turkish Turbine” participated in last year’s Kunlun Max was defeated by Wu Xuesong in the group stages at Kunlun Fight 41, despite beating former GLORY lightweight champion, Davit Kiria, on the same night in the 4-man qualifying tournament, for the ‘Final 16’.
Following his recent decision win over Serginho Kanters who, also lost to Xuesong in the quarter-finals of last year’s Kunlun World Max, Ozcan is eager to fight again in China for Kunlun Fight; and is confident of beating the newly crowned Kunlun Max champion, Superbon.
“I’m now busy with Enfusion League this year but I want to fight in China again after April because there is a gap in my schedule until October so I’ll that fill with Kunlun. I think Superbon is a good fighter but I think I have the tools to defeat him. My style is hard to fight nowadays.”
“I want to join the 64 tournament that Kunlun is heading for but it has to be after the league or in May or something, somewhere but for now, I’m focusing on February 18, Jonay Risco.”
Ozcan is currently on top of the 72.5kg Enfusion League with recent victories against Kanters and Mohammed Jaraya for a second time at Enfusion Live 41. The upcoming bout with Jonay Risco at Enfusion Live 46 has all the ingredients to be a classic between both men. Risco shocked the world when he defeated K-1 legend, Andy Souwer at Enfusion Live 27 by decision after an extra round and recently lost a thrilling decision to Jaraya at Enfusion Live 43.
However, the potential opportunity for Kunlun Fight to renew terms with Tayfun Ozcan will be interesting to see unfold in the coming weeks and months. Especially as Kunlun are set to resign both Cedric Manhoef and Serginho Kanters on new contracts this year. MMA Plus will be monitoring the situation and reporting again in due course.
