MTGP3, Wakeling

It is a dream match that muay thai fans have pined for, but Michael Wakeling vs. John Wayne Parr will no longer be taking place on Muay Thai Grand Prix this summer.

News broke officially today confirming muay thai legend Wayne Parr will be competing at Muay Thai Grand Prix 5, June 11 at the o2indigo.

As we reported in November, 2015, the original plan was to have JWP face off against UK number one Michael Wakeling. Announced on the MTGP podcast, the bout was supposedly scheduled to take place in March.

Having clarified with various sources, debunking the initial confusion, it seems that the bout was never officially scheduled for March, and was always intended to take place in June.

Although, in a recent turn of events, MMA PLUS understand that the bout is officially off.

It has been revealed to us that Muay Thai Grand Prix promoters had negotiated fixed purses for both Wakeling and Parr to compete for the promotion. But after circumstances that have yet to be made official by MTGP, the muay thai outfit made it clear to the Wakeling camp that they were no longer able to match their initial, agreed-upon deal.

Michael has clarified the deal was never about being unreasonable with his asking price, but instead, about MTGP honouring their initial contract.

Despite the dream fight between Wakeling and JWP no longer on the cards, the Australian is still confirmed for the card and his opponent is expected to be announced very soon.

A very successful MTGP 3 event last weekend yet again showed why the promotion are one of the best in the UK, and with a European event announced for May, they look like they are moving from strength to strength.
